Quiz

1.  What do I mean when I say "The visual cues in a film have to match up with the audio / musical Cues "
2.  Check out the scene below.  Can you make any observations about the music set to the movie?  Do you like the song? Do you think it works well with the scene?   What are some things you hear / see to support this ?
3a.  What if we add the song to the right ?  What does it have in common with the original example ?  How is it different ?  Does it still work well with the movie ?
4. Observe the car chase scene below.  Pay attention to the music.  What type of song is on ?  What's the genre / instrumentation ?   What about the music did the director think would support what's happening on screen ?
5. Describe what you think might be a movie scene set to this music. Imagine you are a director and are given this piece of music to inspire you to shoot a scene.  What would it look like ?   What characteristics of the music fit that scene?
6.  For the assignment last class, some people picked a track like the one to the right - ' Background Suspense Music - Suspenseful & Dramatic Film Soundtracks "ANTICIPATION" '  .  This is a pretty specific emotion - do you agree with the title ? Why ? What in the music makes you say 'yes this is suspenseful' or ' i didn't really get that from the song'
7.   Take a look at the scene below.  What are some musical characteristics of the piece that you think may have factored into the directors decision to use the song for this scene ?
7a.  Research and Find another song that you think would work perfectly for this movie scene.  What are the musical characteristics that you think support it ?  Give a list !  (if it fits perfectly there should be a sizable list - look at  your list from the original and try to find a song that contains the same things.
