Rhythm Review:

Finding Intervals

The Silver Tuna :
This Chart below is your BEST FRIEND when finding intervals - if we can Count the half steps, we can use this chart to determine the numerical name for the interval .

BUT - Why do we call them those names ???

Picture
It all has to do with the second notes relation to the scale of the fundamental pitch .

First Pitch Heard = Original Pitch  = Fundamental Pitch
Second Note heard = Interval Pitch = ?

The when calling the interval by its numeric name, we are actually describing its relation to the fundamental pitch's scale.

IE , Fundamental Pitch = C  ,   Interval Pitch = G
G Is the 5th note in the C major Scale , so the interval would be a ____?

Practice :  Using Teoria

Now that we are finding Intervals, we can use this handy site 'teoria' . We will use this again for other concepts !
This page links you to the interval practice from a fixed note - this means that you choose what the first note is and it stays the same.  This is a good way to practice, but note that when tested you will have to find both notes.  You can also do this same exercise from a random note
  • Be sure the all intervals are selected
  • under tempo , select "grave" , this will make the program play  the notes slowly and hold them out longer
  • The default time to give an answer is 10 seconds, but you can increase this is the "answer in" option
  • Be sure the "type" is selected as "melodic" , and the direction is "ascending"

Practice : Major or Minor

Use this Site to start practicing hearing Chord Qualities .  We will start with JUST major and minor.

PART 2:
IF YOU HAVE A HANDLE ON THIS  :

Can you find WHAT major or minor chord it is ? How would we do this ?
