What is the Music doing for the video ?
Why is it there ?
How is it improving the audience's experience?

When we Take things in visually - We are constantly having REACTIONS
Reaction = an action performed or a feeling experienced in response to a situation or event.
Reaction = an action performed or a feeling experienced in response to a situation or event.
Take a look at these pictures and observe what kind of reaction you have
Reactions....
In just a split second, we can look at these pictures and say to ourselves "They look sad" or "That's Sad" or "I wonder why they are crying"
In just a split second, we can look at these pictures and say to ourselves "They look sad" or "That's Sad" or "I wonder why they are crying"
Again - If I said "what is your reaction to this ?" , Your response would probably be " they look angry/mad !"
Easy to see right ?
^^^THIS RIGHT HERE IS US INTERPRETING SOMETHING EMOTION FROM THE PICTURE^^^^
(AKA a Reaction)
It's not the same thing as Feeling Emotion ourselves - but Recognizing an emotion someone else might be feeling
We (as humans) are really good at doing this when visual cues are involved !
We learn and are conditioned from a very young age to be able to do this, it's not necessarily something we are ever 'taught' , we just learn it naturally to recognize the emotions on peoples faces , we don't have a thought process "oh he's yelling and pointing and his face is screwed up , he must be angry" - We just see the face and know ANGER
<<<NEXT LEVEL>>>
We don't even stop there though - we don't just think "he angry" and not think anymore - we might think
"Why did that make him/her angry? what happened to them right before this photo ?
Or
" I wonder who they are so mad at ? Who is he yelling at ?"
Or
" Yikes I know that face !! That's the face my wife makes at me when she is super pissed ! "
Not only do we react by interpreting the emotion , we have a deeper reaction when we try to figure it out, or relate to it.

The whole deal with what we have been talking about, is that we can do this from music , too
I'LL PROVE IT
What if we choose some music to accompany those same photos
Here's two examples.
Question : Which one is more appropriate to accompany the photos?
Song 1
Song 2
Which is more appropriate to accompany the photos ?
The music Projects emotions that are also reflected in the picture
OR
We get *Aural Cues to match up with the *Visual Cues
We see this ALL THE TIME in Television, Commercials, Movies ETC.

Same Exercise Here .... Which song matches the pictures best ?
Song 1
Song 2
? See how easy this is with the visual cues ?
Our brain automatically reacts to these songs, and labels it with an emotion or a meaning , without us really even thinking about it
- JUST LIKE WITH THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS -
We don't have to think or analyze too hard - it is subconscious and instantaneous !
****ONE BIG GOAL WE HAVE IN HERE IS TO UNLOCK THAT SUBCONSCIOUS JUDGEMENT, AND MAKE IT A LITTLE LESS INSTANTANEOUS*****
-We really want to analyze and try to figure out what we are looking for to make these interpretations
- In the case of the facial expression pictures, you could describe 4 things in these pictures that lets you know how to interpret the emotion from it
WHAT ABOUT FOR MUSIC ? CAN YOU ANALYZE YOUR OWN THOUGHT PROCESS ON HOW YOU REACT TO MUSIC ?

Do these work as well as the original ? Why or Why Not ?

The Most important thing is that the MUSIC represents the same EMOTIONS as the Video
