Texture

In Any given song,  we have an ensemble, which has a certain instrumentation, made up of a number of Timbres.

BUT

Not all of those instruments are always playing at the same time

OR

Not all of the timbres can be heard simultaneously (at least for parts of the song)

Texture is defined by How many timbres we can actually hear at one time , in any given moment of the song

Texture Listening

  • For the following Songs, listen, and keep track of any change in texture you hear.
  • A Change in texture is signified by :  Addition,  Subtraction, or Change in Timbre
  • For every time you hear a change in texture, record:    (1) a time stamp     (2) the number of timbres you hear    (3) What kind of Change in texture you heard   (4) If possible, name the timbres
