Listening Assignment

DUE:  MONDAY - TYPED

For this assignment, you will be examining Repetition in music.  You will listen to some songs I give you, then pick a few songs of you own and discuss what any aspects of the song that are repetitive. 

Song List:  

"Love Yourself" - Justing Bieber
"Smells Like Teen Spirit"  -  Nirvana
"Black Cow" - Steely Dan
"Shining Star" - Earth Wind and Fire

+ 3 Songs of your choice
Give the Following information pertaining to Repetition in Music:
​
1.   List the instrumentation.  Use your ears at first, but If needed, research what instruments are used in the song. Do your best to get ALL of the instruments.
Remember: 
** Vocals Count!.. Specify if is  Male or Female - also if it Lead or Background Vocals**

2.  For Each song, make chart with a 'repetitive' column ,and a chart for a 'non-repetitive'  (Like seen in class).  Refer to your instrumentation list and put each instrument in the appropriate column. 
**All of your instruments should be on the chart in one of the columns**

3.  For each instrument, give a very brief description of what is repetitive about what it is playing.  
(you do not necessarily have to use musical terms...just describe)
**Example Explanation: ** 
Vocals  :   Saying the same lyrics over and over, in the same notes (whip/naenae)
Guitar :  Strumming the same pattern and same chord progression
Example:  "Let it Be"
Instrumentation:
Piano, Lead Vocals, Background Vocals,  Drums, Organ, Electric Guitar
